Formal Coffee Hour and Tuxedo Challenge
Sunday, Oct. 7, join us for the Formal Coffee Hour and Tuxedo Challenge to help raise money for the “What If?” foundation that provides millions of meals for hungry Haitian children. Please participate, guy or gal – young or old, come dressed to a “T” or come as you are!
**Our Youth will be combining some activities with the St. John’s Episcopal Church Youth group this fall. Our youth will attend St. John’s service on October 21st and we have invited St. John’s youth to join us for our service on November 18th.
Return to Shantytown!
On October 13, our youth will once again participate in Shantytown hosted by the West Bloomfield Congregational Church. They will spend the night outside in shelters built out of cardboard. This is an event that supports Habitat for Humanity and raises awareness about homelessness. Thanks to Jennifer Brownell for coordinating this for our group. Look for opportunities to support and sponsor our youth!
Light Hill Paper Drive & Turkey Tree
Please bring in toilet paper, paper towels, baby wipes, stamps, etc. for Light Hill. We will collect these items to support Light Hill’s comfort care ministry which supports those in their final days. The collection will begin October 14 and run through the rest of October. Look for collection boxes in the Social Rooms. Thank you for your generous help! Coming in November, watch for the coat collection box in the center front entrance between the sanctuary and chapel AND look for the “Turkey Tree” where we will collect new hats, gloves, scarves, & lap robes. These items will be shared with the Salvation Army families in need.
Join us on Sunday, November 18 at 10:30 am for our Thanksgiving Day service. See our sanctuary in all its splendor decorated with pumpkins, gourds, and many other fall treats!
Our now “annual” Christmas Pageant will take place on Sunday, December 9th. Once again, it will take place in the chapel immediately after the church service, and before coffee hour. We hope you will join us for this traditional celebration of the Christmas story!
40th Annual Community Messiah Sing A-long
The 40th Annual Community Messiah Sing – Along, under the direction of Edith Rice, will be held Sunday, December 2, 2018, with rehearsal at 1:00 pm and performance at 3:00 pm in the sanctuary. All singers are heartily invited to join in singing this wonderful music, concluding with the magnificent “Halleluiah Chorus.” Scores will be provided, as well as refreshments between the rehearsal and the performance. Any questions, please call 394-2184.
The Advent Workshop will take place on December 16. Meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and tell them how good you’ve been this year! Craft supplies and holiday activities will be provided. Come join in the fun! Parents and other adults are welcome to help. Contact Debbie Lyon at firstname.lastname@example.org to volunteer.
Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held at 5:00 PM on December 24th. This service is one of the most beautiful services in Canandaigua. Plan to be at the church no later than 4:30 to find a good parking space and to hear the choir’s pre-service music! PLEASE NOTE: Due to our standing room only crowd, and the fact that we have had to turn people away again last year, we ask that all church members arrive by 4:30, and that no more than one additional seat be saved (for your driver) when you arrive. Thanks for being considerate of all!
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration
Again this year, our church will host the Community MLK Celebration, at 12 noon on Monday, January 21st. Students from the Canandaigua Academy Drama Department will provide a dramatic presentation of Dr. King’s words and the elementary school chorus will provide music. Award winners will be announced for the poster contests. There will also be a community choir to sing “Precious Lord”, directed by our own Edie Rice (choir will practice at 11am – please sing with us). Following the event, there will be a light lunch in the Dining Room. We are in need of cookies to be donated for this reception. Please contact Sue Blaker or call the church office at 394-2184, if you can help with cookies. Please join us for this extraordinary event in our sanctuary!
