Adult Retreat Saturday, November 3, 9am-2pm
In the Social Rooms
On Saturday, November 3rd, we will have our annual Adult Retreat in the Social Rooms. For this year, I have chosen one of my favorite authors, Parker Palmer.
An educator, author, and Quaker activist, his thoughtful books have inspired me for many years. He has just published his tenth book at age 80, and it continues in the vein of all the others: challenging, yet grace-filled; hopeful, yet realistic; and compassionate, yet calling out our better selves. His previous books include: The Active Life, The Company of Strangers, A Hidden wholeness, Let Your Life Speak, and The Promise of Paradox. His new book is entitled On the Brink of Everything: Grace, Gravity, and Getting Old.
I intend to use thought-provoking excerpts from a number of his books as catalysts for our discussion moments on November 3rd. I will have copies of these discussion starters to pass out that day, so you don’t need to read his books beforehand, but I feel certain that many of you will want to explore his books in much more depth after our discussion of these tempting tidbits.
Please plan to come to our retreat! Coffee and some breakfast snacks will be available when you arrive, and lunch will be provided. In order to make sure that we have plenty of copies of the materials and enough food for lunch, please reserve your spot with Alicia in the office beforehand (394-2184) or send an email (email@example.com).
Guests would be welcome so please bring a friend. And if you find that you can come at the last minute, we always order some extra- just in case. There is no charge, but we ask that, if you could, please drop something in the basket that day to help defray the cost of lunch (if you have any special dietary needs, please let us know when you call to make your reservation).
Any questions, please see me or call me!
